A friend just reminded me of this day in May 2011 one month before Dad died. It was a gorgeous day and we had made a plan to meet friends at the beach. James and I had to talk Dad into going, he was always a reluctant participant in bigger group events (as in more than just our family!). That day he enjoyed a 45 minute walk on the beach and when I told my friend he was 80 she couldn't believe it. He looks so young! He has such energy! That day we were trying convince him to stay a second night at our house to babysit Sydney so we could go out again (he had babysat the night before too!). He agreed to do it. I had made a healthy vegetable pasta dish for them which apparently Syd refused to eat. So while we were out Dad fried her up an egg and made her some toast. Yep, she gobbled it up! I smile when I think of him in the kitchen entertaining her as he made her some breakfast for dinner as he had for me so many times. He was so great one on one. Dad loved going on walks, kids, the beach, meeting a need, eggs & toast.
